For anybody planning of moving, I would strongly suggest staying away from Win Van Lines out of Santa Clara. I relocated from Sacramento to NC in Sept and had (still having) a nightmare with this company. I was quoted $511 for packing materials BUT when everything was packed a loaded on their truck (a little late to do much about it) they told me it would be $5770. No, that is not a typo. In addition, I paid $500 to have 2 statutes hard crated and they were not. One was damaged. At first, this company completely ignore my emails, phone calls. It was not until I filled a formal complaing with the BBB that they responded. I say responded, because they still wont take ANY responsibility. Win Van Lines...STAY AWAY from them!

S.A.P. Relocations, Inc. outta San Jose is horrible also. I didn't realize SAP stood for "slow as phak," or "seriously are problematic." They have a good ad in the yellow pages but if you look 'em up in Yelp and the BBB (like I shoulda) then you'll get a clear picture.

At least after about a month my stuff arrived from CA to MO though, and they only overcharged me a few hundred extra. Lots of shady moving companies out there I guess....

Moving companies are notorious for shams like you've described. Unfortunately for the good ones out there, they have to deal with the same suspicion. You've really got to check out who you're hiring whenever you deal with this type of business. When I move (something I do a lot), I go with a particular large truck rental agency that does not begin with "U" or end with the word "Haul", because that company sucks something mightily. Great stories to tell, but I'd rather not have to think about having inadvertently killed someone on the highway because of various pieces of trailer that fell off along the way.
