It all depends what an area is being compared with.

I have a friend who moved to SLO from the Bay Area. In the Bay Area he got called a moderate. In SLO he tells me he is considered a liberal.

Doesn't surprise me. Many religious people are pretty wacky and creepy in the first place.

McCain won the county and Prop 8 passed here by 15 points. And that was in a high-turnout election that otherwise saw historic Democrat margins.

It will be a long time before Orange County is "quite the liberal area", trust me.
In your dreams Take a look at the data & you will understand why the GOP pooped in their pants. Even Newport Beach voted Democratic & the county's increase in Democratic voters far out numbered Republicans. It is predicted that Orange county will vote Democratic by 2012 because the old white people are dying & young people aren't bigots.

As others have pointed out, Bakersfield is basically the last large city in California to remain Republican. Even Fresno votes Democratic. There really aren't any sizable cities that are conservative in California because their positions are rejected by Californians.

Sure, "it is predicted" by you, happ -- the loudest, angriest bigot on CD. (Boy, there's a study I'd like to see. "Bob, do we have the latest demos on the old racist whiteys?" "Sure, the percentages are in the folder on your desktop.")

Of course, not too long along you were so concerned about the resilient Republican nature of OC that you posted a thread fretting about it. Guess you didn't have it all figured out then.

Not since I moved to Los Osos. When I lived in Atascadero, I guess I was a magnet for religious wackos The ones I've met at Farmers are generally very nice and I've struck up many good conversations with them. North county however... I was confronted more than once, usually because of my tattoos/piercings. Been told I was going to hell for 'defacing my body' and was even compared to Hitler at North County Christian School graduation (I was attending to support a friend of mine who was graduating) 2 years ago.

Since moving to Los Osos it's been a lot more open and quieter.

It seems that liberals get the prime real estate (Bay area and other coastal cities) while the conservatives are pushed inland into the boondocks.

You can stay in blissful ignorance [typical Republican] all you want but don't expect me to provide you with data easily available to all [ie. LA Time Election results]. Putting your head in the sand [what a minute, not sand since the Orange county beach cities vote Democratic]. Maybe the dirt in places like Temecula would be better to put your head in. But either way it won't change reality that Republicans are a failed group of old white people with bigot-roots that go back all the way to where they are originally from [mostly the South]. Look it up & come into the real world or whine!

OP, you want a conservative CA town, try Bakersfield or Lake Arrowhead.
You are basing this, I am sure on the last election which means absolutely nothing. It is like saying the whole country had turned republican in 1980.

Conservative: inland and north of Sacramento, as well as the central valley. These areas are conservative..Some of the cities, like Arcadia, Glendora, So Pasadena are still considered very conservative as well as, most of OC and parts of San Diego county.

No, happ, we don't need your breakdown on how people voted last year...
