It seems, looking through the ever shrinking list of job listings in both the Bay Area and (somewhat surprisingly) even more so Los Angeles (which I have done as favors for friends of mine), an increasing percentage of jobs out there are now requiring knowledge of Chinese as well as English and Spanish. The number of jobs requiring merely Chinese as well as English is growing.

Not that this is any surprise, given global events and the world economy, but has anyone else noticed this?

I think it's horrendous.

Other than a few people who actually deal directly with China, most people would be better served investing their scarce time in (re)mastering English and learning Spanish to an advanced level.

Also, English is still the lingua franca of global business no matter how much Han supremecists might want things to be otherwise.

No surprise. I've been advising the kids around me to gain some Chinese language skills. Next will be Hindi.

I know 5 languages (3 fluently) and so far... I'm 1 for 3. No spanish, no chinese. I guess one of these days, one of the languages I can speak (besides English) will be worth something

I doubt that, English is the second official language in India.

My bet for next big language will be Portuguese since Brazil's economy is the next big thing, and it has already taken hold of Miami and Boston.

I've noticed the same thing down here. I guess it's not enough that half of the cable channels under #30 and half the radio dial is Spanish already.
