Lot of fearmongering. Nobody can be prosecuted for ignoring jury summons.

They can't prove you got it.

Since everyone has a right "to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury," if few people answer the summons and even fewer end up serving, it makes it pretty difficult for the 6th amendment to protect people.

You certainly seem dead set against ever serving.

That is why you get served an osc by the sheriffs department to appear and explain yourself. Then you show up and lie under oath how you didn't get it then the best case scenario is the judge makes you serve jury duty anyways.

Seems strange to called so many times and not have the opportunity to be a juror...

My employer does not reimburse for jury duty and employees either use vacation time or just take unpaid leave...

Just wondering if anyone else gets called every year and has yet to serve?
They've heard how much you love Oakland so they take advantage of that. Besides you seem to be on here all the time so they figured you had nothing better to do.

Pretty sure the sheriffs office has better things to do than stake out my house waiting to pounce and "serve" me.

I've never heard of anyone being served this way. I don't answer the door, so how are they going to serve me?

LOL. This is a scam to get more people to jury service. Well, intimidating people with fake threats (which is an unlawful use of the mails, btw), is not going to help, nor will it get the kinds of people that SHOULD be jurors to serve.

It is self-defeating, as a system. BTW If jury service were so great, then they wouldn't have to resort to fraud and trickery and coercion to get people to do it.

It isn't a fake threat when it is codified. The reason people don't serve is because they think their isnt consequences when they ignore a lawful summons. By doing random osc it ups community knowledge that you have to obey jury summonses. btw, the sheriff department has a whole division for service of documents like OSC's, tro's, eviction notices, small claims paper work, etc.

Civic duty isn't supposed to be great, that is why it is civic duty. You complaints about our system of government hold less meaning when you refuse to participate in our actual system of government.

There is no "lawful" summons. Find me the law that gives the government the authority to conscript people into jury service. There isn't one. Its a scam. There is no law, there is no "lawful summons". Unless you work for the government, they can't just order you around. We're not slaves, for chrissakes.

I already provided the code section. It is also explained in the 6th amendment and the California constituion.

Your argument has no basis in fact or law.

I ignored a summons once (not entirely on purpose - just forgot) like 7 years ago, and haven't been prosecuted or fined yet! So I tend to believe this, at least in actual practice.

Somehow I've managed to avoid EVER serving or even having to show up for jury duty, and I'm almost 41 years old. Have only even received a summons maybe three times, and aside from the one I ignored, they didn't end up needing me. I guess that's the upside to my frequent moving? The state simply can't keep up with my changes of address, lol.

If you are speeding on the freeway and you were not caught does that mean police do not enforce the speed limit?
