We are planning a move, but we don't know where. We like California. Interested in:
* major airport (we like to travel) within 30 miles or so
* hiking/biking
* zoos and parks
* museums
* botanical gardens and horticultural activities
* colleges
* low taxes
* low crime
* reasonable housing

Have NO interest in:
* sports
* anything involving snow

Does anyone have any suggestions for great cities and towns we should check into?

Not sure if all your desires can be accomplished anywhere. But, I'm thinking you might look into Davis; home to University of CA at Davis or Woodland, just up the road. Davis housing might be too costly. Both are suburbs of Sacramento for the more urban of your needs; airport, zoo, etc.

haha, you got the wrong state in mind if those are two of your requirements.

Cheaper housing can be found in parts of the state but not low taxes.

I'd like to know hot this can be accomplished. Seems to me you need to know where you're going to even get to first base in your planning, don't you?

Plenty of great cities here in California..wouldn't you need to move where you can find a job?

If you tell me you're independently wealthy then you will get more recommendations (California is a huge state). You are pretty much asking for the perfect place and haven't mentioned what kind of money you have to spend or career you have/job prospects lined up.

Not sure what you consider low taxes and reasonable housing but San Diego sounds like a good choice to me. Also somewhere a bit outside the city of SF may be a good prospect to check out.

As far as i know no taxes are low in ca. Keep in mind we have the worse legislature in ca history & stay out of L.A. (city & county) cause the taxes their are unbelivable. L.A. has a foul, womanizer mayor & a greedy, lying city council that is the highest paid in the world.
