My husband is looking at China Lake. We currently live in Boise, ID, but work isn't great here (or anywhere really, I know). We have two small children, one of which will be ready for school soon, and I'm hoping to go to college. My husband does computer crap for the military (couldn't tell you what) and there are openings for work there. Whether you know anything about China Lake, or just CA in general, please list some Pros/Cons so I can show him what Californians think of it all? I know it doesn't seem so "bad" on the internet, but you get the REAL info by asking locals. Any links to info on China Lake would also be appreciated! HELP!

China Lake
My brother has lived in China Lake since the 80s and I come to visit once in a while. If you hate the desert, I would suggest that you look elsewhere since Ridgecrest and Edwards AFB and the Naval Weapons Station are smack dab in the middle of the Mojave desert (west of Death Valley).

According to the LA Times, all the defense work has kept the area's unemployment rate relatively low, home values are dropping slower than elsewhere and Ridgecrest actually has a budget surplus.
