I'm in my early 20's and don't favor college towns... however, the need for good groceries and bike-distance beach access makes Arcata my only viable option.

So I must learn - if I were to walk around central Arcata (west of highway 101 and south of Alliance), and take a glance at the population wandering around the town square and its surrounding blocks, how much of the youth I'd see would end up being students of HSU? Practically speaking, are many of the people in their 20's simply living there merely to live in that location, and have nothing to do with HSU in any way?

I have a cousin who attends Humboldt state and lives with his girlfriend who is not a student. But Arcata is probably overwhelmingly students that likely make up a good chunk of the population. Plus, keep in mind that Arcata is like marijuana ground zero so if young people smoking weed is not your thing then you may want to consider another coastal town.

Yeah, about that... there are none. I've already checked into it more thoroughly than you'd believe. I'm very assured there aren't any decent cities with walking distance to both a beach, hiking trails, and an organic grocery. You'd think these basic criteria could be beet in !@#$ing California but I guess not. You can't walk across the 255 bridge in Eureka; Ferndale is too expensive and there are no apartment listings anyways; Ft. Bragg actually requires that you cross a bridge just to go shopping, and there's no pedestrian walkway on that bridge either; Point Arena and Bodega Bay are tiny and thus it'd be next impossible finding an apartment in either - not that they'd have decent grocery stores; the Russian River cities have no way of accessing a beach besides Jenner which is super tiny: I could go on, and on, and have come to the conclusion that California basically sucks. I'm about to move to Hawaii or just forget the United States and travel around Europe because this garbage is pushing me over the edge. Feel free to not respond if you don't like my "tone".

This thread is worthless... could the moderator just delete it?

Delete this thread. This forum does not put enough power in the hands of the users; there should be a way to delete your own threads, or at least edit old posts.

The moderators want most of the forum abilities, and it would be nice if some of their abilities were in the hands of the actual forum members.
