Hi, wife and I are off in June want to go camping an are open to suggestions. Looking for a spot in New York (Adirondacks/Catskills), New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, or Connecticut.
Any public or private campground you could recommend?
If you are about 20 miles south of Malone NY on rt 30 Lake Meachum is the campground to judge all others by.
nice beach, well spaced and wooded camp sites , hiking trail up Mount Debar = https://www.reserveamerica.com/campi...=NY&parkId=608
In CT, Hammonasett State Park (Spelling ?).....pretty much on the water. Massachusetts......look into Cape Cod, not sure anything on the water, but we use Shady Knolls as a base camp....love the beaches at the Cape. NY....Lake George RV Park....never been there, but have heard good things. Maine.....we stayed at Powderhorn RV Park.....a little tighter sites than I like, a short drive to the beach, don't care for the beaches in Maine, or at Least Old Orchard Beach....like the Cape much more.
I love the Adirondacks. There are many public campgrounds (~$18-22/night) that have a lake on-site. In June, and especially during the week, you may be able to find campsites that are directly on the lake itself. (During peak times, July/August, you have to book much earlier.) There are quite a few like this so you'd really have to narrow it down and if you did decide on the Adirondacks, I could be more specific about sites/locations.
Almost every state park in MA and RI are either by a lake or the ocean. There are a couple MA ones in the mountains though.
Same with Maine - most state parks are on the ocean, the mountains are mostly national forests. Most of Vermont's state parks are in the mountains, a couple are on Lake Champlain.
There are a couple parks around Laconia, NH. The rest of them are on rivers or in the mountains.
it is ..no fun for campers. we made the mistake of setting up our tent a few years ago (Adirondacks) in early June and we were attacked till our heads were bleeding, packed up camp and went to nearby hotel to soothe our wounds.
ETA: pine Hollow in Vermont...almost forgot. Great little campground with the sites all around a like. Lovely but because it really is in a hollow, cell service is almost non existent. So if you need that, be forewarned.
