Wife wants to get a small class c motorhome but after owning a trailer and a class A, I'm not sure I want to again take full ownership of a MoHo. The overhead costs, before ever taking it on the road are pretty high so you have to use it a lot to get any value from your purchase.

I got to thinking about whether a co-ownership with 3 or 4 other like-minded folks might be viable. I know I'd be a good co owner because we take care of stuff and are pretty easy to get along with. I know there are serious pitfalls unless everything is pretty specifically spelled out.

4 owners means 1/4th the overhead while still using it probably as much as if you owned it outright.

Has anyone done this - or known someone who has?

Taxes and maintenance pretty easy - what about insurance?

Assuming everyone involved lives in our small city so there might be some safety there.

For what purpose, frequency of use, etc?
Long story short... figure some other way to meet her request.

Can be done - not ez, but may be worth it. Research jointly owned airplanes for a very mature industry that does this.

Register / own / insure through an LLC Montana preferred by many RV, boat, airplane, exotic car LLC's) Follow the rules to a T. (Don't miss ANYTHING) (MT=sales tax free (lifetime plates on some vehicles)

Have strict use policy (mileage and time and schedule, kids, pets, towing...) as well as a mandatory hired Maint and cleaning (detail) shop.

Set up appropriate 'reserves' (repair / replacement)
Agree in writing of critic safetly issues such as what brand and class of tire and brakes is acceptable!!!
Have a STIFF mileage rate, disincentive for LONG trips (MH depreciate FAST.)

Annually do a complete survey / update (Especially hoses, filters, genset, waste system, wiper blades...)

Good idea to do this in New Zealand! Let me know if you need a partner! (diesel ONLY, I don't do GAS (dangerous and wasteful)). I would like it staged near Christchurch (Cheaper fares, better terrain, less people)
