There seems to be a wide variety with both product and pricing. Can anyone recommend a good unit?

Also, a battery charger. I was looking at Halo as it was talked about but I don't know enough to make a good decision. Would it be best to get a combination?

IIRC, you might want to also consider a12 VDC inverter model charger combo (For traveling in a vehicle).

Make sure you go over 500w (normal load, higher peak capacity)

first:

Please be more specific;

What you want to accomplish ? (charge what (amps required? laptop vs a cell phone is very different) and for
How long / how often? Boondocking / needing to rely on solar, vs plug-in to 120v daily, vs using a generator are very different applications) and ...

What is the application (where used...'portable (?)') airplane, in car, walking, backpacking / camping) this will dictate the size of device you want to drag around.
Passengers are permitted to travel with lithium ion batteries that contain a maximum of 160 watt hours per battery.

This is why going to the RTR is going to be so helpful for me.

I'm not sure how to answer your questions as I'm still vague on my plans. Currently just something to charge my tablet and laptop while boondocking at the RTR and then camping while I travel starting in May.

I have ordered a small charger, which should, hopefully, work for the RTR as there will be enough people around to help me out if I need more power.

And maybe the sensible thing to do is just wait and discuss possibilities with folks at the RTR.

I'll be making life a bit harder for myself with my plans to live in my car as long as I can but it will be worth it in the end because I'll be able to afford a nicer van, or a minivan and travel trailor.

I will be buying a jackery and solar suitcase but not right away. But because I plan on that, I don't want to put a lot into other systems.

For something small, I have this and it's still like the day I bought it in 2015, as far as keeping a charge and the charge lasts a long time:

As for something with more juice that's not super expensive, I've had one of these before:

I've always had good experiences with Anker... Its practically the only brand I buy now a days for portable power banks.

I bought something on Amazon (I think) about 2 years ago that will charge tablets, phones, plus will jumpstart your car, and also has LED emergency lighting. The brand is beatit, it cost $50-$60, and has been very reliable. It’s small, comes in a zippered carrying case.

I spend a lot of time in the woods, and this always comes with me.
