Hey,

Can anyone tell me which countries Canada imports its oil from? I only know of Norway. Also, are there any websites that have up to date info on this (barrels per day, percentage of imports by country, etc)? On my search I've found a deluge of information on American imports but next to nothing on Canadian imports. Thanks for any help!

Eastern Canada imports oil from Algeria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Venezuela, the UK and Norway as well as some from western Canada. Western Canada exports oil sourced from the Alberta tarsands, also some from Saskatchewan, the bulk of it being exported to USA by pipeline. If there was a pipeline from western Canada to eastern Canada's oil refineries there would be no need for eastern Canada to import oil from other countries. Some of the oil that Canada sends to USA gets refined in refineries there and then is sent back to Canada. Canada is listed as the worlds 15th largest net exporter of oil.

Try the Oil Drum for more up to date information about the oil industry, if you sign up you can ask questions there too: http://www.theoildrum.com/
