I'm curious about which cities across Canada people feel especially safe or unsafe in. While I rarely feel like Halifax is a particularly dangerous city, I sure don't feel comfortable walking home by myself in the wee hours of the morning (though many of my friends do feel comfortable doing this.) I never feel uncomfortable walking around at night in Toronto. Toronto is of course much bigger, and with so many people everywhere I always feel safe walking around at night. Halifax can get really desolate. Even right down-town on week nights it's really dead. How do you people feel about walking around at night where you live?
I am originally from halifax. I love the city, but it is a tough town. I would walk around at night, but I always kept my wits about me and was a bit on edge.
....Half of my friends were victims of violent crime (muggings, jumpings etc)...
Calgary, by comparison, feels very safe. I am comfortable walking just everywhere....even late night train rides are alright.
St. John's is another safe city.
Edmonton is bit rougher, but not as bad as halifax.
