I have been to Restoration Hardware several times over the years, I don't buy anything, but usually get dragged in by friends who do.
I went today and found out that the ticketed items are USD. They don't say USD on the ticket, just $199.
Secondly they no longer keep stock, they sent it all back to the U.S. so everything has to be ordered.
They charge for shipping and money conversion.
I asked the sales lady if they are afraid of losing business because of the delivery charge. $39.00 for a ticketed item of $199. It's was a duvet cover, not exactly heavy. Her response sounded like a blatant lie. She said the shipping price was included before, it just that now it's separated. I was blunt, and told her I didn't believe it.
So this item marked as $199 came to 275.00 CDN. The bill is broken down to show tax and delivery but not what rate you got on the conversion. I did a quick calculation and the exchange rate seems accurate, six dollars on the $199.
My friend bought the cover since it is one they really wanted, but now are turned off from ever going back.
Is this the future of stores, that they are just a becoming showrooms? What about impulse buyers, they want the item now, not in three weeks.
I can almost stomach the showroom future, but the ticketing in a foreign currency, and now having to pay for shipping on everything is maddening.
Anyone have more experience with this store and are my observations accurate?
