I'd love to make a trip to Canada from the US sometime in the near future. When is the weather nice? Whenever I visit, I would like to spend 7-8 days splitting the time between Quebec and Montreal. How expensive are the accommodations in these cities? Particularly accommodations close to the city centers. Any advice and suggestions would be great! Thanks

It is hot already. 10pm, 27C/81F. Tomorrow will be 31C/88F.

Keep current on the weather here:

https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca.../quebec/quebec

It's already high tourist season: caleches (horse carriages), doubleDeckers (London-type buses) and amphibian vehicles traverse downtown every day.

Accommodations closer to downtown in both cities are about 100-200 a night. Of course, Hotel Fairmount in Quebec City could be 500 CAD.

Check on www.expedia.ca for hotel and b&b prices. There are other websites as well - tripadvisor.ca, hotels.com...

Hotel accommodations in or near city centres are almost always going to be pricey compared to locations further away from the downtown. Parking will also be an added expense if you're bringing a car. The last time I visited Montreal (late September last year), I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on Boul. Rene Levesque, a 3 star hotel. Total cost for the night including parking was about $181 CAD or about $135-6 USD at the time (always check exchange rates from time to time). See if that price range is too expensive for you. Staying at a fancier hotel like Hotel Le Crystal or the Ritz Carlton will obviously cost more while you will likely save money by staying at further away locations like the airport but you won't get the same convenience as staying in the downtown. I am sure Quebec City is similar.

I typically stay at the brand new Renaissance Hotel on Robert Bourrassa right next to Saint Catherine Street. It can get a bit pricy $250+ CAD per night but you can always try different corporate discounts while booking on Marriott.com, which would bring down the cost significantly to somewhere around $175 CAD per night, keeping in mind that this is a solid 4-star (borderline 5 star) hotel geared almost exclusively towards adults and business travelers.

Other than that, I've stayed at a couple of Airbnb flats around downtown, and the price will always be 50% cheaper than comparable hotel rooms. Last month I rented an Airbnb flat a Corporate Apartments.com for about $170 CAD per night, which includes a 2-storey penthouse in a high-end condo on de la Gauchetierre Ouest, 2 bathrooms, separate living and dining rooms, full kitchen, free wifi, and daily room service.
