Well technically Calgary's "source" runs right through the middle of the city. My comment was more in that you can go to the source of the entire river and watch the snow and ice physically turn into your drinking water. Plus Calgary is only downstream of Banff/Canmore. Not as much poo to drink.
You win LOL because the river runs through the city, but Vancouver's watersheds, are close by. The Capilano watershed is where one of our sources is. It's a mix of rainwater and melting snow pack. So on a clear day you can see the snowpack from downtown....or if I REALLY stretch, the rain that falls on my head is the same as the rain that fall in the watersheds.

I just have to say... this thread drift reminds me of how lucky we are in Canada, to be surrounded by the natural beauty, the pristine resources that we have. There are parts of the world where I'm certain people couldn't imagine taking all this for granted. We're fortunate!
I've only been to Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Of those three, I chose Vancouver. But all three cities were much cleaner than any major city I've visited in the U.S. (and I've visited all but one of the 15 largest cities in the U.S.).
Earlier this year, I visited my best friend in Pittsburgh for two weeks. We drove to Toronto and things look and feel much more neat and orderly in Canada, IMO.

Agreed! Many visitors, especially to Vancouver, do not realize how close that wilderness is. There are many stories over the years of hikers going for day hikes in the North Shore mountains, and dying.
Since the mountains are right in town, people get a false sense of security.
When you live here, you learn to respect that.
I had to explain to friends from the UK that if they went over those mountains, they could wander for days ands still not hit a town.
