Serious question: Is Canada a Socialist Country ?

Or is it more capitalistic with certain socialist traits?

Here is a list of socialist countries:

I think you should first get informed what's the definition of socialism and a socialist country. It seems that lots of people, especially Americans have no clue.

Take 10 people off the street and ask each one of them separately for their definitions of socialist and capitalist and you will get very different answers from all 10 of them. Most of them their definitions will be incorrect.

So I guess the correct answer to your question will depend on you first providing your own definitions of socialist and capitalist so that everyone else will know what you're asking about from your own perspective.

What do YOU consider to be socialist and capitalist?

.

Canada is clearly a socialist country. It seems like every week, I learn about yet another Canadian program, rule or law which I never knew about, that is blatantly socialist.

What Canadian social programs do you have a problem with? some of them include Social Assistance, the Canada Child Tax Benefit, Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement, Employment Insurance, the Canada and Quebec Pension Plan, Workers' Compensation, public education, medicare, social housing and social services. Some reading on the subject =

True, a true Socialist state owns and controls the means of production and there are very few countries that do that, certainly Canada does not. Most countries employ a mix of capitalism and socialism to try to achieve the most social benefit while allowing capitalism to enrichen the masses....my definition is to determine how much of the GDP is controlled and run by the state and how much is not....using my definition, the USA is about 30% Socialist and Canada a bit higher with the Nordic nations just above 50% Socialist. Even Communist China has rejected full Socialism to allow capitalism to enrich them and it has.

So, if that's actually happening every week, perhaps you could avail us of a couple of your most recent examples, eh?

No, Canada is not. However it's important to understand that most labels are not you are or you aren't.... it's a matter of degree. Most societies have some form of socialistic programs, the USA and CA are not different.

In another thread I rated USA as a 3, Canada as a 4, Norway a 7, Venezuela a 10. It's just my way to things in perspective.

I'm getting sort of fatigued at being asked to bend to other people feelings about what a word means. Definitions exist for words like socialism.

Yes.

Everyone seems equally miserable, you get taxed too much, regulated too much and the government punishes you if you make too much money or try to get ahead.

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck...
