I'm so tired of this. We keep reaching all these great milestones yet the restrictions don't seem to be ending. 61% have their first dose, that is great. We are ahead of schedule on our vaccine role out. The big issue is there's still no timeline from the government or Canadian health officials on when travel restrictions or mask mandates will end. Last week, scientists said the quarantine hotels did not prevent spread, yet Trudeau is tightening his position on this. Will life ever return to normal? I'm giving it another year before I pack it in and move to the States, which is pretty well fully open right now. I love my country and what it was but I am afraid we might not ever get that country back. We live in weird times..

It was recently learned that Moderna will be shipping 8 million fewer doses than promised to Canada by the end of June. Moderna hasn’t even been able to provide a delivery schedule for June.

Think about what those 8 million doses would have meant to our vaccination effort. It would have certainly led to the Canadian border being opened earlier than it now will be.

It’s hard to come up with a timeline when a supplier is completely unreliable. It would be pure guesswork.

I have my second appointment towards the end of the month and I had to take an appointment farther from home than I expected in order to take Moderna. I was a little worried that they'd be out of it.

I wonder if the reason for that is because some hijacking country has interfered with scheduled production and deliveries again just like what caused the delays in delivery last time. It sure sounds suspicious and I would like to find out who or what is responsible for it this time around.

Canada is currently trying to get the doses it ordered from Moderna from the US instead of Europe. The US government is still blocking shipment. Yet their politicians are pushing for the border to open. There’s a disconnect there.

Now that pfizer is going to be most peoples second shot, I might be able to get it sooner.

I am starting to come around the mixing side. Not happy about it, still kind of upset about the messaging and handling of AstraZeneca but my family thinks I am overreacting about the whole thing and encourage me to get the first shot available. I see some health officials recently got their second dose of something else. So, we'll see how it goes.

It's almost as if this woman wants people that took AZ to be hesitant about getting a second shot. She said NO to more Az vaccines in the province.

From yesterday...

Dr. Joss Reimer, medical lead for Manitoba’s Vaccine Implementation Task Force, says that new vaccine recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization on mixing mRNA vaccines will be a form of trial and error.

“Well in some ways, during a pandemic everything we do is a big human experiment,” she said in an interview with CTV’s Question Period airing Sunday. “Because we're all having to learn together at the same time, about what works the best.”

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says NACI still recommends sticking with the same mRNA vaccine regime for both doses, but that you can mix if there are problems with availability.

I really can't understand why she will not allow people who got Az first dose to get a second dose if they choose. To this day there has been zero reports of any serious side effects from the second dose. Is there any interview or an explanation her reasoning?

Not anymore according to CTV. The US is set to release millions more vaccine shots to Canada, Mexico, and other countries in dire need of vaccines. Granted Moderna is only one of the manufacturers as the supply will also include Pfizer, J&J and later AstraZeneca. It is true that the US had hoarded vaccines in the recent past but what did you expect it to do with a scarce good. Just as how Canada is doing the best in looking out for its residents by keeping the borders closed to non-essential travel, the US is looking out for its residents by making sure they get first dibs on the vaccine. Not to say Canada does not have a fundamental right to its orders, but we still have many more residents down here that are waiting to get shots. Besides, if you read the article carefully, you'll find that Canada has been criticized for not sharing imported vaccine shots with others. I don't blame Canada for holding back though. You have to do what you've got to do with limited supply and that means looking out for your own people first.

Also as I said before I believe to Zoisite, the words of our politicians always need to be taken with a grain of salt (or sugar if it is too bitter to swallow). American senators and reps. often use fiery rhetoric to drum up support from their constituents, even on matters they personally don't even care about. The Brian Higgins and Elise Stefaniks of the world can shout and complain all they want but they know their words amount to nothing but hot air and will not change the outcome of the border opening. All of their clamoring just serves to create an illusion that the border reopening is a panacea for all of the border communities' ills. It is best to just put on earmuffs and ignore them.
