Unfortunately renal failure isn't reversible (except with a transplant), but it can be managed and a good quality of life had with dialysis and certain medications. It's a chronic health condition that usually develops over a long period of time, rather than a short-term emergency that arises and then maybe resolves. Here's hoping we have him back wasting time with us when he's ready to
We should afford the man his privacy though, nothing we can do from here.

It depends on the the underlying cause and luck. I experienced renal failure six years ago. My creatinine level was over 600 (normal range is 35 to 97). It had been in normal range just four months earlier. The doctor sent me to Emergency where I was admitted to hospital. It took some days for the underlying cause to be determined, but once it was, treatment started. I was never on dialysis but the the doctor just shrugged when I asked if my kidneys would recover. Three months later my creatinine was back in normal range.
I also post with someone online who experienced renal failure. She was on dialysis for several weeks (months?) before being taken off of it.
Jambo posted many months ago (like a year and half to two years ago I think) that he was on dialysis treatments. It's one of the reasons why they haven't wintered in Florida for the past couple of years, nor gone for a visit to Vancouver to see his daughter there.
BruSan, I think if you send him a direct message he will be notified about it on his email. I'm assuming it will work for his settings, I always get email notifications if somebody sends me direct messages on the forum. Doesn't everyone get that notification?

Medicine is complicated and you'd think I'd know by now to never use terms that imply "always". Acute kidney injury like what you described is often reversible, but renal failure that you'd get started on regular dialysis sessions for generally isn't.
Either way, I wish him the best. He very likely could be one of my patients but I don't know his real name and even if I did, of course would be bound by confidentiality. I'll be thinking of him with each and every dialysis patient I validate an order for.
BimBam's info is helpful to better understand what Jambo's going through'
Zoisite; your reminder of the direct messaging feature is timely - I've even used it before with Jambo but this "senior-second" thingy caused me to forget completely to try it first.
Thanks again everybody.
