Toronto has more jobs in general. If anything, just because it is 5 times larger than Calgary. However, there may be more competition for jobs in Toronto as well.

In past years, Calgary’s job market was very favorable for candidates. These days, the market is much more balanced. Getting a job is still easy. You just have to be better than all the other candidates.

With all of that said, you should decide where you want to live and go from there. Calgary and Toronto are two very different cities and you may not be equally happy in either.

Thank you ZX14TJ!! To live where is not my concern. My number one concern is where I can get a good job and it gives more opportunities for graduates. Do you know where I can find the data regarding the IT job market? I know Calgary has a lot of jobs, but I am not sure if there is high demand in my field. For Toronto, there is no question. There are a lot of IT jobs over there.

I agree with this statement completely! I'm in IT and the market in Toronto has actually slowed down, as per several recruiters that I have spoken to. Also there is a lot more competition and the unemployment rate in Toronto is 7%.

Salaries are still higher in Calgary, unemployment is still lower (3.3%). So if I had to do this over again, I would have gone to Calgary. Also check out Edmonton.

And yes both cities are very different.. some people like one or another, it boils down to what you look for in a city.

Salaries are higher and jobs more available in Calgary. Also, the work culture is Calgary is much more relaxed and laid back in Calgary than Toronto. Also, Calgary has more career growth opportunities.

This is all a direct result of the growth in Calgary and the trouble Calgary has had attracting all the people it needs in IT though...

Not much softwate QA testing done in Calgary... Skilled labour is much too expensive and dear in Calgary for QA or beta testing so this type of function would be outsourced...
