Nice photos of Ottawa, Muggy. I like the Ottawa area a lot, been there several times in summer and winter. Right about this time of year they have a big Winter Festival with ice sculptures out on a lake at the head of the Rideau canal. The canal is frozen over solid and scraped clean so thousands of people can go out skating along the canal. In the evenings with the lamps along the canal it feels like going back in time, as if it were a Scandanavian fairy tale. People that live near the canal and work in downtown can even be seen ice skating to or from work! What a commute. It's hard to believe a place like Ottawa is only an hour or so drive north of the US border.

I know what you mean. After living in Upstate NY for 20 years, I finally visited Montreal. I was shocked to find a European, sophisticated type city only a four hour drive from where I live. I love the feel of that city and how it seems like you are in Europe with most people speaking French. I've yet to visit Ottawa yet. It looks nice too. The people in Canada are great IMO. I really wish I knew how to get some of them to move to my hometown. They are the type of people that can help transform cities for the better.

Muggy, I wish I was there right now! The pictures are gorgeous.

Here's some I took when at the Jazz Fest this summer, an older one of the Beefeaters in front of the Parliament Bldg (they marched right past our hotel on the way there), and a shot of the tower in Toronto.

One of the very best things about living in upstate NY is visiting Canada's cities. I adore Kingston, Ottawa, and Toronto. Go as often as I can.

My son went to the U Toronto for a summer semester and I picked him up at the Kingston train station (there and back is a day trip for me). I couldn't believe how clean the station was, and everyone was dressed up. It's so funny to see the Muni Towers there and the reference to the (past) enemy (us across the lake).
