If the dye that bothered you was the iodine-based one, there is a newer product called gadolinium. I am allergic to iodine so I get that whenever I've had to get a contrast study done.

actually i am glad this happened after my mom passed. last year at this time i was taking care of mom in her last weeks and had that been this year, i would have freaked out. mom (who lived with breast cancer in remission for almost 20 years) was obsessed with alternative prevention (she treated her condition with laetrile) and had she found this out about me it would have taken her out even faster.

tho i felt bad yesterday, today was different. i actually skipped lunch and not because i felt bad, but because i was busy at work and honestly not even hungry. all in all, today i felt good. i obviously am looking forward to seeing the new specialist tomorrow

the dermatologist who referred me to the cancer specialist called me again today to make sure i go tomorrow which was a nice gesture. he also expressed how happy he was that i took the time to look at the growth (I needed 2 mirrors since it was hard to find) and that i felt it looked suspicious(he actually didn't think it looked suspicious) and came in to have it checked.

tho i was never a big beach bum, i always liked the beach but was always careful. i wore shirts most of the time and used sunblock. i haven't been to the beach since 2001. i did hear from someone that if you were ever overexposed to the sun before the age of 12 it could affect you later.

my dad had a malignant melanoma. he had the growth removed and it went into total remission. he passed from something totally unrelated

You guys are great.

rlrl, you are in my thoughts and prayers and I am sending positive wishes your way. Stay strong and keep negative thoughts at bay.

this has worked for me in many stressful situations. I regularly use the 23rd Psalms and the Lords Prayer, mainly because I learned both at a young age and I can say them by rote....<s>

Good luck !

when i met with the surgeon Wednesday to discuss the procedure she asked me for the # of my GI doctor who wanted to do a liver biopsy because my enzymes were elevated since 2006. however i could not recall the entire #. however recently he decided that i don't need the biopsy so quick because he felt it was coming from my being overweight and diabetic. this was before i was diagnosed with the melanoma. i am not sure if she called him

now i am wondering if she definitely should contact him because now i fear the elevated enzymes could be coming from the cancer. trouble is, i wouldn't really know why i would be asking the surgeon to contact him other than it would just make me feel better

do you think i should give the Nurse Practitioner a call and tell her my concern, that one of them should contact my GI doc and tell him about the melanoma? maybe he will have an opinion?

or maybe the surgeon will biopsy the liver?

i will probably give the NP a call tomorrow anyway

I am supposed to have the procedure done within 10-14 days

I had a liver biopsy done b/c they "didn't like the look of it" when they were in there for something else. Turned out to be fatty liver. I would see what your surgeon suggests.

rlrl, I hope you are doing okay. To answer your question about the dye, it had zero affect on me - other than turning my urine blue for a day.

sure, give them a cal. It doesn't hurt. I will add just one thing, my doctor has said, elevated enzymes have to be really elevated before really worrying much and I have a doctor that is inclined to over re-act. I have slightly elevated enzmes as well, right now she isn't worried. So many things can cause the problem. Even then we all have every right to question anything that concerns us. It never hurts to ask if you are worried. If for no ohter reason you can get assurance there is no connection or you can bring it to the doctors attention so follow up can be done, if necessary. Today, we all see so many doctors it is hard for each of them to know what the other is saying or thinking.

what would you do? i was told the procedure is Friday 7/27 at 12:30. I am a social worker and am the head social worker in charge on Sundays. i was told i can go about my normal business on the next day. from what i see, there could be an issue with the dressing or the wound getting infected or soreness but other than that everything should be good.

should i ask my immediate supervisor to put another social worker on alternate in case something happens with me post surgery? i just informed him now about the surgery and my concern

i mean i am hoping i will be OK but on the other hand you never know. as the head social worker in charge i have to be there so i want to prepare for anything unexpected now

you should be just fine, but if you feel better, of course talk to the supervisor. Did you call the nurse to tell her your concerns about your liver?

i saw a liver specialist today. he feels, based on my bloodwork that the enzymes are elevated because i am overweight. my supervisor is going to try to arrange it so i don't have to work
