If alternative treatments worked for all cancers, they wouldn't be the ALTERNATIVE treatment! I consider medicinal herbs unregulated drugs - something to be careful with. I have metastatic breast cancer. There are so many variations of breast cancer. Even the cancers that seem to be the same in different people don't react to treatments exactly the same. I think it's a good idea to support the body with diet and execise during treatment, but I'm not an advocate of alternative treatments as a stand alone protocol.

I agree with chele123. Alternative treatments may help but should not be used as the only treatment and I believe should only be used after consulting with your oncologist. Even something as simple as a supplement can actually feed cancer cells. I have breast cancer, ER+, and while the active ingredient is a supplement may actual help keep my cancer in check, the soy used as an inactive ingredient in many supplements can turn on any dormant breast cancer cells in my body.

Never was a pot smoker but I sure do wish the Feds would legalize it in it's natural form for cancer patients since every study has shown that it significantly reduces the risk of cancer reoccurrance.

The soy you eat in food is okay. The soy that is processed and used as an inactive ingredient in supplements is the issue. it tricks the body thinking it's estrogen which will turn on any dormant ER+ breast cancer cells.

what do you think about alternative treatment for cancer?
I am not believer. If my brother were pushing alt treatment I'd tell him to shove it up his backside. If he needed help I'd assist.

You are going to be your best advocate for care. Ask questions take notes and grab copies of lab reports, surgical reports and keep it in a binder.

Ask Steve Jobs' ghost what he thinks of alternative treatment. His cancer was discovered very early but he wasted time on alt meds. He admitted it killed him.

Not so sure that's true. Pancreatic cancer is actually a very slow growing and silent. Scientists say, on average, a person with pancreatic cancer has it for 17 years before any symptoms begin to show and a diagnosis can be given. By that time the cancer has already done its damage and it is usually not curable.

AFAIR it was found accidently and he had no symptoms yet. I do know he regretted not getting treatment immediately.

i know i know, i'm obsessing...
obsessing to a point is normal, but don't let it take up your entire life. Most of us who have had cancer do obsess from time to time, especially the first few weeks or months after diagnonses. People who continue month in and month out, that is different. YOu are not one of those. You have just been diagnosed, the doctor wants to see you instead of meeting with you before his vacation, your mom died of cancer a year ago, of course you are worried...

AS for the alternative treatments; forget it. I would only rely on them as last resort, if nothing else was working and I thought my days were numbered anyway...Please, just listen to your doctor...

tomorrow i see the surgeon for the pathology results. the home care nurse said my wounds are healing well and don't appear infected, but to call if i run a fever, which might indicate infection in the wound sites

the nurse came over 2 days ago and told me if the surgeon says i can be Dcd from home care i will be DC'd

within the past week or 2 ive noticed my appetite hasn't been all it should be (tho i take victoza and metformin which do curb the appetite)

last night i ran a fever from 99 to 100.5 and at one point it was 101.5 but it quickly went down to 100.2. i woke up this AM and it was 98, then 98.6 so i went to work. i had a late breakfast and a late lunch due to my poor appetite

the nurse called me and she said it didn't sound related to the wounds because they looked and felt really good. no blood, no oozing, they looked health and healing

i came home just now and took my temp and it was back up to 99.8.

in the past it was not all that unusual for my temps to be in the low 99's in the evening, but not for so long

tomorrow i see the surgeon who will tell me the results and of course check the wounds. i will tell him about the low grade fevers

the wounds are hurting a little more than they usually do. maybe there is an infection and he will prescribe an antibiotic

what do you make of this? the appetite issue and fevers concern me
