If they say the cancer has spread always ask them to be sure its not two or more different types instead of one that has spread.

My brother passed away about 16 months ago. He had 3 different kinds of cancer. The doctors said this is very rare, but is it? They said he was stage 4 and only had a short time to live, they gave him all they had and he still lived 2 and a half years. He never had stage 4 cancer because not a one of them had spread.

Either way they treated him like it had spread and that's what killed him, imo. I could be wrong but I don't think so. He had throat cancer that was only in his throat. A very small cancer on the outside of his lung, not lung cancer. Also one on his kidney which was not that big either about size of grape.

Not a single one had spread.

He was going to a research center because he didn't have insurance. They treated him like his cancer had spread. Intense radiation and chemo. They waited till he was so sick from this to do surgery on his throat, then he got more treatments and sicker then he was very sick so they did surgery on his stomach, then when he looked like an ad for a world hunger victim they did surgery on his kidney.

I hope people ask these questions and take control of your treatment. Ask for test if they say it spread. Let them treat it like one cancer and go for the worse one first.

I am surprised he was told this is unusual. I know of several people who have had more than one cancer and they were not related. In fact my husband is an example. His prostate cancer and his lipo Sarcoma had nothing to do with each other, even though they were in close proximity. I have a fried who had breast cancer and later colon cancer, again not related.

When my sibling died from cancer, I always felt there were two cancers involved. That was many years ago; I'll never know now. I'll bet it's more common than we know.

I would think it does matter, especially when it comes to treatment. Not all cancers are treated the same; not all cancers are killed by the same treatment. You wouldn't get thyroid cancer treatment for breast cancer.

Ignorant idea! All cancers have DNA and it isn't all the same. Treatments vary by type.

No, not all cancers are the same. No, treatments are not the same. To think they are the same is a ridiculous notion.
