I just learned a few days ago that my nephew had surgery to remove a carcinoid tumor from his intestine. I have never heard of such a thing. He is 57 and the picture of health. Not an ounce of fat. Always ate very healthy. Cooks a lot for himself, using tofu etc. Rides a bicycle like some ride the car. Surgeon was not able to remove it all. Surgeon said it is a good thing he is in such good physical condition. He went to oncologist today to hear about what is next in line for him. Have not talked to him yet.

Just wondering if any of you have knowledge of these things. What to expect, etc.

Thank you.

Good luck to your nephew. Hopefully they caught it early enough. And thank you for asking. I think this is what my mother died of. There were no symptoms until it was too late. In retrospect, the doctor said that the ten years of embarrassing little burping that she had were an early sign. Too bad no one knew.

As with your nephew, there were no known risk factors. The doctor said it is mostly genetic.

I think his was discovered during an annual exam but why the doctor did an x-ray is unknown to me. He saw the oncologist yesterday. He is still healing and will go back in August for further testing. From there they will decide what to do next. For now, no treatment, no chemo, will be done.

Thank you for your input. I am sorry for your mother's death. It's hard to understand when symptoms are in front of us but their meaning not always evident.
