Lots of folks up in Maine had those attitudes about guns and wild animals......not so much regarding dogs; dogs are well cared for.....but the gun and hunting culture was pretty dominant......even worse in NH.

The newer neighborhood behind us across a field has lots of young children and they look like they are having a block party and BBQ although there are only about 12 houses in their neighborhood---sure hope they keep those fireworks down with not only all the critters around here but all those little children. Fingers crossed. All of my indoor cats are already in and I'm thinking BuBu may be joining us too depending on what goes on. Otherwise if DH gives me trouble about bringing him in I'll go out and sit with him. Just hope they enjoy a nice BBQ and maybe a few of those sparklers for the kids.

I live in Chino Valley, AZ. No one fires off fireworks, I believe it is illegal (thank goodness), people go see fireworks at various locations. When I lived in La Mirada, CA..we stayed home because we had to protect our dogs and house. Cherry Bombs would hail through the air and landed on roofs and fires started. It sounded like a war zone. Our dogs would be so frightened. We held them in our arms so tight.

Good Morning cyn and friends. Well we survived the fourth!.....a neighbor on our cul de sac went nutzo with huge explosions up till 10:30 out in front of their house (all our houses really, since it is a 7 house cul de sac.) I just don't get it, the total lack of consideration for others.....but in other ways they are good neighbors.....so we put up with it......and tried to shelter our dogs from trauma of explosions that shook the house.

Good morning everyone. Like you elston we did survive the celebrations and noise. As I mentioned in the small neighborhood behind us they were getting all set up early so I figured there would be some fireworks--but with the little kids I never expected to hear those big explosions but they survived I guess. BuBu slid into his crate and stayed there the whole night bless his heart. This was the worst 4th since we've been living here and it still was nothing like in CA so it's ok I guess. My cats didn't even hear it much in the house and the outside cats know where to go. I think the thunder and lightening especially this last few weeks got everyone prepared so they weren't that upset.
Have a great day everyone! Looks like we are still in for more rain today...some heavy storms supposedly--surprise! Least the grass is mowed now! I think I can see the grass grow if I watch it closely! Ha!

When I rented a room from my friend Marty, her dog (german shepherd mix) would try to claw his way out of the bathtub during storms and fireworks. Sad.

We heard boomers from 8:30 til 10:30.

Have a great day, all.

A sunny good morning from SW Florida. I hope that you have a good day. I just made a really big chili to take to church tomorrow for the church chili cook off. I like to do it ahead and then refrigerate it so the flavors can blend and I can degrease any that I didn't drain off. It smells good. I hope it isn't too hot....but is hot enough.
