My daughter adopted an older male cat from a pet rescue. He had been owned by an elderly lady who died, and her heirs didn't want him so they dropped him off at the pet rescue where we boarded our dog when we went on vacation. This cat was very social to both people and dogs, and went out to "greet" them walking by our house. He would rub against the walkers' shins and nuzzle the dogs, who just seemed hypnotized and confused. One neighbor gave him the nickname of "The Mayor", and the "Mayor" was always out "politicking" (making up to folks and dogs on our road walking by). He had a rock in the front yard where he sunned himself and watched for people, so we'd say, "The Mayor is in his office". Our elderly neighbor had a Schnauzer, and both were favorites of our cat's. The "Mayor" would always leave his office to go rub and purr and nuzzle both of them when they walked by. The "Mayor" has been dead for six years now, but our neighbors still remember him.
Thanks! We miss the old Mayor. When my elderly neighbor and his Schnauzer stop by to visit, he always says, "We sure miss that cat." On Halloween, I miss how he would always hang out with me while I handed out the treats, then follow the kids up the road, still rubbing their shins and "politicking". I'm looking for a garden statue of a cat that looks like him to place on his rock, so the Mayor will always be in his office.
Their owner has a whole bunch of tapes of her animals on Youtube. All of them are super cute. She got her little dog from a woman walking down the street asking if people wanted a puppy for one dollar. She got him and you can read her story on Youtube. Her dogs and cats are just adorable.
I've had dogs and cats my whole life and they always got along or even more. We once even had a dog who let our new kitten "nurse". Dog had a litter about 2 years prior to new kitten so obviously didn't have anything for kitten. They both loved it. We finally had to break them up cause poor dog's nipples got all red and inflamed. But she never seemed to object.
I just spent over an hour watching these videos. Like I don't have anything else to do!! But they are so dear and relaxing and make you think about what real love is....send them to everybody.
Yes, they helped me when I had to have my cat put to sleep. They always make me smile.
