lets say you are in a horrible accident and in the hospital for a few days and don;t survive. What is happening between the time you left the house and someone follows your instructions? Who is tasked with knowing that something is wrong and can legally act for the benefit of the pets?

Good point, and that's another issue I've already considered... my best friend (who live 10 minutes away) has my house key, and has already been on "standby" whenever I travel. She has dogs herself, so I know she can handle caring for Rudy - and while she's allergic to cats, I'm sure she would do short-term care or call my mother to help. Again the snakes are a different story, but luckily they can be ignored for WEEKS before it's a real issue. They're the ultimate in low-maintenance pets, LOL.
