$20 per day is very reasonable. If your intent is to undercharge, you are definitely doing so.

To catsit/housesit for that length of time, $35-$50 per day would be typical, in my experience. This also depends on your location and whether the homeowner is allowing you to access food, entertainment, and other amenities in the home.

Years ago, I loved to pet/house sit. Seemed like every place I stayed had premium cable channels and a pool or hot-tub. My favorite place had fresh tomatoes I was expected to pick (and eat). I was encouraged to cook and allowed to have a friend over. They were always a drive from my place, so it was always an adventure. I was also fortunate enough that that all my clients had great artistic hobbies. I still have a beautiful hand-crafted jewelry box and some amazing framed nature photographs. So charging on the cheap end really paid off for me.

For one cat, $20 a day is reasonable. If it is far from where you need to travel for work/school/etc., it would not be unreasonable to increase it to cover your transportation.

He wanted to pay me $25 per week! For two visits a day and spending a few hours hanging out with his cat each day! No thank you! I've been stressing over this because I knew this guy wasn't up for paying the going rate for house/cat sitting, but this is ridiculous. I don't think that cash flow is an issue with this guy. He just seems to be out of touch with reality and doesn't get that you have to conform to norms. He even told me that he'd asked around and people were telling him $25/day... but he just didn't want to go with that. Sorry, but you can't hire a stranger and pay them well well below average. It's not like I'm a friend doing this as a favor.

Wow, talk about insane. Even years ago here I paid around $9/day for one visit. For spending a few hours a day it should be much more. $25/week! I hope you laughed in his face.

That's about what I was paid 20 years ago as a kid to walk across the street & feed my neighbor's cat as a favor. He's got some other responders to call & acted like he thought they'd take the job & I was unreasonable. He truly thinks he will find an adult (a stranger) to hire for $3.50 a day to carve out 2 time slots a day for his cat. Talk about delusional. Maybe a friend would do it for chump change, but not an adult looking/advertising to get a PAID JOB!
