I was telling my bf about a couple of these stories and he reminded me of one of his.
We adopted a 6 year old kitty and when I brought him home I tried to show him where the litter box was. It seemed like more than a day went by and he still hadn't used it.
My bf scratched in the box to try and entice the cat only to come out with a buried handful of catpoo!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I really did laugh out loud at that one, thanks for posting!!!
You guys all have me laughing so hard...I needed that!
And BTW, I do know all about the dingleberry factor, Hagrid needed quite a bit of "bottom grooming" assistance until he got so sick of me washing his bootie, he got "anal" enough about doing a thorough job for himself .
Now back to our regularly-scheduled butt-sniffing adventures...!
Without thinking I dropped to the floor, sniffed the spot, then sniffed the cat's bottom. Then I remembered I wasn't alone and looked up at my friend. She was laughing her head off, but was not grossed out.
LMAO! You gotta do what you gotta do.

Since butt sniffing is normal cat behavior, none of the cats are bothered by this.
They seem to think it's quite acceptable! Cookie -- she with the anal glad problem -- just sits still when I check her out for potential issues. Good kitty.
You mean like seeing little white worms wriggling around on the rocking chair pad after the cat's awoken from her nap?
Or forgetting to tuck the cat's tail when you pick her up and getting some silvery grey slime all over your hand and arm?
Or when the cat sits down on your bed and doesn't tuck her tail, and when she gets up you see a little round brown spot on the sheets? Or worse -- your pillowcase?
A little cat gravy is nothing ...
It sounds like your cat needs to be treated for tapeworm and may also have an anal gland problem your vet needs to look at. Seriously!
In my case, what I call the dingleberry factor is a bit higher on the yuck scale. My old cat requires that the fur in the vicinity of her rear end be trimmed every once in a while. Often I get careless and omit doing this little chore. This is when things can get messy. Instead of landing in her litter box, her droppings will become entangled in her fur. After that, things can get, shall we say, rather crude. On one smelly, messy occasion, she dragged her butt across the carpet and laid down an 18 inch strip half an inch wide of you-know-what on the rug. Usually I either smell or spot the situation quickly, but not always. In any case, comes the wrestling match, sitting a kitty down that absolutely hates being touched with metal, and going to work with scissors and wet paper towels, cutting, trimming, wiping and cleaning the mess, all the while trying to hold still a cat protesting the whole thing. LOL. Have to think that changing the diaper on a baby is easier than this.
I sure can relate to this as we have the same problem with our medium hair cat Phaedra. Sometimes she actually drops "poop balls" on the floor that stuck to her breeches when she left the litterpan. She needs trimming several times a year and it's always a fight. She acts like we're killing her.
I haven't seen any yucky leftovers from my cat, and am very happy for it!!!! =D
I don't think we'd ever get another medium haired cat again. Not by choice anyway. I never saw this happen with short haired cats. Even trimmed the feces sticks when she has soft movements, something common with her since she was a small kitten.
