For me, being a senior citizen, it would be the natural thing to do to adopt an older/senior cat, as it would greatly reduce the chance of the cat out living me & having to go through the trauma of be re-homed. There's a good chance that 1 of the 5 cats I have now may outlive me, and I really hate the though of her having to go to another home. In her particular case I think it would be a very difficult adjustment.
I will probably not have any more cats after my current ones are gone, but if I ever do adopt another it will be a senior.
We adopted our Olivia when she was 14 years old... she lived with us for 4 years. We adopted another cat along with her, but she was 3 years old. Now Mimi is the one that shines at 9 years old (wow, Olivia would have been 20 this year). I'm glad we adopted an older cat and I'm glad we adopted Mimi as well.
