Might get trashed for this, but my cats are allowed on the kitchen table...
There's a box of Chlorox wipes nearby and I use them frequently.
There is a lg window over the table so that affords a good view, plus the sunshine. One cat likes to help make morning coffee so kitchen counters are ok f4rggh ***
Not too lenient at all! Cats love to be up off the floor, have a view, some sun and be a part of whatever you're doing -(getting in your way whenever possible, lol) - you are just a very good pet parent.
Even if I wanted to, it is next to impossible to prevent a cat from going anywhere it wants to, so it would be a waste of time trying. But I don't care anyway, so I don't mind if my cat jumps up to wherever she wants to jump up to.
One of my girls is fed on the kitchen table. When it's my turn to use it, I wipe the surface...if I remember. I don't eat off the table, after all. I use a plate.

***cat just stepped on my tablet
Am I too lenient???
I'll have to take the 20 lashes right along with you. I realized two things quite a long time ago... (1) with 2 exceptions, I really don't care where they go, and (2) it's just easier and less stressful for everyone concerned.
I don't let them stick there nose into my plate when I'm eating, and I keep them off the pillow I sleep on. Other than that, everywhere and everything else is fair game. After all, it really is their home too.
We aren't very good at enforcing the dining room table but we do strictly enforce the kitchen counters. If for no other reason for the cats' safety since the stovetop could be on, there are sometimes knives while dinner is being prepared, etc.
Kitchen table is allowed, er, I mean unavoidable. The island with the sink has a high top section, it is also allowed, but not the counter where the stove is. I only have two that can jump that high. It doesn't bother me, but I try to keep it to a minimum when non cat owners are here. Disinfectant spray/wipes are always in abundance.
No cats on our kitchen counters or our dining table.
We have never allowed that and never will.
That being said, whatever is acceptable to you in your home is your choice.
I originally had the table as a no-go zone, along with the counters. The H let the table go and I didn't fight it. No cats on the table while humans are eating is the new rule and I still try to enforce the counters. She stays off while I'm looking, what she might do when I have my back turned makes me feel hopeless. He lets her do just about anything, so what chance do I have?

None. I fight the same battle most days. I make headway with house rules for the cats and hubby comes home and blows all the progress up.
