You have seen door mats like that, like this?
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/1c/7c...bf8fdc3472.jpg

My question is if I put that out by my front door, will I be encouraging evil people to drop their cats off? I would think the odds would be against it because the front door is 100 yards away from the road and I am almost 10 miles away from the city.

It would take the word spread by some delivery man (the most likely person to see the door mat) for them to know that and I don't think such jerks would go to such a distance, such an effort.......

.........but am I misjudging the situation?

Evil people would kill the cat, or worse, drop it off in the middle of nowhere.

Well, that is what I am asking for the ranch is in the middle of nowhere. Let me further clarify the question that I am looking at it not really as an invite but rather, doing something to feel good about myself, I might be opening the door to a "over run" situation. That is how I am asking the question, with that possibility at the back of my mind.

Clarification, Mk II: When I say evil people, to me, that is the catch all for those who abandon pets. That's the kind of person I am talking about.

Do you want the doormat for fun or do you take in cats? For fun, out where you describe, it sounds fine. If you keep cats, then just how far do you think people will drive to get them to you? How many "wayward" cats are in your vicinity?

Cats can't read, delivery men won't be dropping random felines at your door. Its just a door mat. Have fun. It's your place, do what you want.

We-ll, so many questions, so many answers.

The basic point is that I have my reasons to believe in Fate. I seem to be a cat, dog magnet for the lost to seek out and search for a new home. It's like the Angels send them to me, "Go find Tamara, she's a marine biologist, she'll find you a good home." or a flashing sign over my head that says "PUSHOVER".

How many over time? 7 at least over 30 years and that was when I was living in town.

As far as how many wayward are out here, I don't know......but this is a college town and if people go off and drop fish in the hatchery ponds, they are sure to do it with other animals as well. Do I think they will drive out "this far"? I would think not but they already have two reasons, such as a fresbee golf course, to be out this far. So they might.....maybe.

As far as the UPS delivery man goes, I am thinking more of him or her spreading the word as oppose to making that delivery, hence if he sees my doormat that says such.......he would know.

As to the first question.....YES.

The cat on that doormat looks pretty fat.
