We have 3 house cats. They have lived here for 5 years and this behavior has just began. One of them has now started to poo poo and pee in chairs and on our bed. What can we do ? I hate to have the cat put down but THIS BEHAVIOR HAS TO STOP NOW. I think she is doing it to mark her territory from the other 2 less aggressive cats. They are maine coons and the trouble maker is a younger american short hair..This has to stop . I am very close to getting rid of this cat .Any ideas would be appreciated thanks

Have you 4 litterpans as recommended by experts and most veterinarians? Are they kept scooped and odorfree? Are they scattered around your house or apt? Have you taken her to the vet to see if she has a UTI? You're not giving us enough information to offer much help.
My cat started peeing on this right at my feet. When I took him to the vet it was discovered he had UTI and needed immediate treatment. I would bet this is more health related than behavior. They do this to get our attention.
Have plenty of clean litter boxes. I have 2 cats which means 5 boxes. I clean them almost every time they are used.
Is one of the cats new?
Read jackson Galaxy - he solves these problems all the time.
Google Cats not using litter tray and you will see many many articles and suggestions. here is just one
They've all three lived together for 5 years? This is probably a health issue. Go to the vet to rule that out. This is the number one first thing to do ASAP.
In addition, you may need to break the cycle by attempting to make it impossible for them to use the chairs and other places while you are not present. It will take thorough cleaning to remove the smell enough that the cats can't smell it.
Make sure there are enough clean litter boxes. Sometimes preferences in litter box can change and they get more picky. Make sure one of the others is not guarding the box against this cat. Whatever is going on I guarantee this cat is NOT the troublemaker.
Even if all health and cat interaction issues are ruled out, this is not an irreversible behavior problem. The cat would do fine with someone else who can either make it the only cat in their home or have more patience to work on the problem. I'll never understand why people jump to the conclusion that the cat might have to be killed because of such things....
Go to Home Depot and get OdoBan. It's the best at removing odors, many vets use it in the kennels.
