My cat Punkin just had her follow-up T4 test since she's been on the Tapazole. Her T4 was in normal range so the pills are working for her and the best part is that she likes them!

That's great news! And isn't it a absolute PLUS when they enjoy taking their meds? Hugs to Punkin!
So glad to see this here, good for Punkin! My cat just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, has to see a specialist. Hoping she just has to take the pills, not the iodine therapy. Anyone know about the therapies in cats??
Glad for Punkin My little brother Patrick will be 19 years old this July and will also be beginning his forth year on methimazole cream, applied twice a day to the inside of one ear, and the second time to the other ear. (It has to go on bare skin). He was judged too old for surgery or iodine therapy. He is a very healthy and happy kitty. Active and cleans his bowl twice a day (breakfast and supper). I apply the cream just before putting his bowl down, and he's so happy for his food, he doesn't seem to notice, or probably takes it as part of the routine.
That is great! My Bo didn't tolerate the pills (vomiting, hair loss, stress from pilling) well so I did radio iodine. It was very hard leaving him in quarantine. But in the long run it was best for us.

Doesn't that treatment make them hypothyroid, so they have to also take medicine?

Actually it just kills of the parts of the thyroid that are bad. I'm not sure how it works completely, but I assume it's the same as human radiation treatment and once you go through it, in most cases it fixes the problem. I've read good and bad things about it, and am thinking once I pay off our debt I might take Punkin in for it.

I'm very happy for you. I want to give you a word of caution though, depending on how old your kitty is, please have your vet check her for renal problems.
My first kitty started showing the telltale signs of hyperthyroidism years ago, and once they got it under control with meds, she started having renal problems. It's because hyperthyroidism keeps the blood pressure elevated and causes the fluids to go through the kidneys, which masks renal problems.
This may not be the case for you, and I pray that it's not. I'm not trying to frighten you or be a wet blanket, I just wanted to give you head's up, in case Punkin is an older cat. There are treatment options for early renal disease.
