It's recently been brought to my attention that some people keep their cats in cages inside their homes. These cages are around 3 ft x 3 ft, just big enough for the cats to stand, sit, and lay in. They are kept in these cages most, if not all of the day. The owners say the cats are "unsanitary," so they must be kept in cages. Now, these cats have no physical problems and they do not relieve themselves where they are not supposed to. They are just normal, healthy cats. They are seemingly well cared for, vetted, and have toys inside the cages. The cages are very clean.
Devoted registered breeders treat their cats respectfully and make sure they get everything they need. In nutrition, exercise, love and vet care.
I often think we should all be as educated about pets as the true breeders are (I'm not talking BYB). Then there would be no such questions.
Of course it's cruel to cage a cat. They are full of energy (when they are not sleeping) and need to run around and chase things (like toys or a laser).
And one more thing: Cats are one of the most cleanest pets I know of, as they are self cleaning and don't smell (and if they do, see a vet). If someone find cats to be unsanitary and find it fit to cage them, then they should not have cats at all. They should get Hamsters or Guinea Pigs, if any pets at all.
What a strange rather bizarre situation. Who are these people and why do they have cats? Of course, that is inhumane and those cats should be removed from that home. In some places with strong humane animal enforcement they could be reported and the cats removed for cruel confinement.

You have just described a medical research laboratory. I doubt that those cats are normal or healthy. No animal was meant to live their lives caged.
Would you like to be put in a cage and kept there? Yes it is cruel. However it is not cruel if you want to keep the door to your bedroom (or other room of your choice) closed so that they don't go in there during the day.

Agree to a point. They don't clean their litter box themselves. I have tried many times to show my cat how to do it but she just sits there and looks away. But if you clean it after every time they go, then pretty much your home is smell free.

So, do you think this is cruel?
yes .... inhumane.... absolutely.....
and if they think the cats are unsanitary, why in heck do they have them in the 1st place??

Same here. I don't know how she does it, but its as if she ate a gallon of chili or something. Good grief, she can outdo a lot of humans.
She also has a habit of waiting for you to clean it, you see her standing next to it like she's got to use it, but she won't. Not until you throw the garbage out and put away the pooper scooper. She's smart.
