My cat who is 12 years old has started to lose hair along her back. Where her skin is showing it seems to be irritated, red spots and also some scabs. She is an indoor cat. Any ideas? I have an appointment to take her to Vet on Monday.
Hi Misty..........the cat living with us (6yrs) from time to time will rub her head raw. She seems to stress over visits by dogs (our kid's) or being alone when we are away for a couple of days. Good luck, I never thought I would enjoy the miserable animals ut they kinda grow on ya..dontcha know!
I agree with Coastal Maine - it could be a flea allergy and may be worth you getting some Profender or Stronghold or Frontline and treating her but would be worth taking her for a check up at the vets first.
May be worth also introducing her to a different cat food - as it could be a food allergy.
my first thought was alopecia..... i had a little black kitty that would get bald spots between her eyes and ears periodically over her 18 years.... looked like stripes on her head...... but there were never any bumps.....
Sounds a lot like a flea allergy. What did the vet say?
It was a flea allergy, but she sure wasn't infested! We treated her with a cortizone shot and frontline and she's good to go. Also, picked up frontline for my homicidal maniac and Mr. Ike! The area where she is balding seems to be growing in orange fur??? What the heck is this about? She's always been a white cat! LOL
Good we're going to be feeling better. Thanks for the update.
