So far we have the names:
Curly Bill
Sawyer
Vito

Trying to stay away from the usual cat-type names.

Other ideas?

Gorgeous kitty - I'm very partial to orange tabbies.

Let's see, you could go in a culinary direction: Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Paprika, or Curry would all be appropriate for his coloring.

My mom had a cat who looked very much like that, and she named him Cougar. That turned out to be an interesting omen, as he was simply gigantic when he finished growing (I think he was at least part Maine Coon).

My daughter leans toward Irish names for cats. There's Finn Mac Cumhaill (my cat), Seamus Mac Finnegan and Maebh (her cats).

If he's the sort who always likes to be on top of things and is forever climbing or leaping to the top of the bookshelf and the refrigerator, you could name him Edmund (for Edmund Hilary, the mountain-climber).

If he loves being under and inside of things like beds, cabinets, dressers, etc, you could name him Spelunker (the term for one who explores caves as a hobby).

If he leaps acrobatically or runs especially fast, you could name him for an appropriate sporting star. A decade or so ago, our neighbor had a greyhound she named Dayne, after a very fast football player who was a star on the UW team at the time.

Or you could take the approach of just calling him by different names until he acknowledges one of them. Be aware, though, that he could wind up with a name you'd perhaps rather not be hollering around the neighborhood; I knew a girl in college once who took that approach with her cat, and every time she'd stand at the door of her apartment building yelling "Dorky! Dorky!" at the top of her lungs, you could see heads pop out of the windows for blocks around.

In any case, enjoy your new furry family member, and give him a chin-scratch for me!
