My grandson found a baby kitten in their garage last night. He called me or course, because his dogs were trying to kill it. I think it is about 4 weeks old but what do I know. Eyes are open and has eaten some cat food mixed with cat supplement. I tried a bottle and while he liked it, he bit the top off so now I am afraid to give it to him again. He hadn't eaten for a while according to my SIL yesterday

I have him in a big dog crate with litter box, towel, food and water until I can get him to the vet this AM. My dogs are not too sure about him so I want to keep him safe.

Any suggestions?

You have a new kitten and your dogs will get to love their new playmate. God bless you.

Definitely only allow kitten and dogs together under supervision until you're sure everyone's getting along.

Also, is he/she defecating on their own? You may have to do the wipe their butt with wet paper towel for a week or two to stimulate bowel movements.

Back from the vet and he thinks he is about 4-5 weeks old. He has ear mites but other than that he is OK. He wormed him too.

Thanks beachmouse, I wasn't sure what to do. I remember a friend telling me you had to wipe baby kittens but I have never had one this small. Of course, they all look small at that age.

Get her to a vet for an examination, and keep the dogs away from her in the meantime (not b/c they might hurt her but b/c they might frighten and stress her out).

Oh, and YAYYYYYYYYYYYY!! for saving a life

I just read that you got back from the vet; I guess you already knew to do that *lol*

Please keep the dogs away from him. I've know of similar situations and the dogs, meaning to or not, tried to play with the kitten and killed it. What was most described by the owners was one dog would be mouthing the kitty and the other dog tried to take it away, like it was a toy..... the kittens were crushed and one was torn apart right in front of a woman and her children.

Sounds like you've got it under control. By 4-5 weeks they can potty on their own. The dog kennel is great as long as it's not too small to squeeze out. Supervise around the dogs, but should be just fine.

Congrats on your new surprise addition!

Congrats on your new baby! I would suggest a dog crate too - to keep him safe when you can't supervise. Thank you for saving the little guy!!!!

If wiping the bottom with warm water-soaked cotton balls or paper towels doesn't get kitty to go to the bathroom, also try running warm water over his butt while gently stimulating the belly. As for food, it's important to make sure he's getting enough moisture...make a "gruel" by mixing warm water with some good quality canned kitten food (Wellness Core is actually formulated for cats or kittens, and it's what I've been using for the little one I've been fostering for a couple of weeks now...she's about the same age as the one you have). THANK YOU for helping the little guy out, and best of luck to both of you!
