Yup, they sure can. My father was sober from alcohol for about 21 years and he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver 1 year before he died. It took that long to catch up with him.
I thought he was diagnosed way before that? I thought Cher said something about it.
I'm just glad that someone donated. It would break my heart to lose him. I have him inked on my left ankle. I don't know what it is about him but my heart always skips a beat when I see or hear him.
