I know that many countries seem to have a person that is almost universally treasured by its inhabitants - like South Africa has Nelson Mandela, the Philippines has got boxer Manny Pacquiao, Thailand has King Bhumibol Adulyadej (who's sat at the Thai royal throne since 1946!), Brazil has footballer/soccer player Pele and the list goes on and on.
Question is does America have its own version of the above figures, someone who's almost universally loved by its people or not? Can anyone answer? Thanks...
I dont think we have anyone like that. There are just waaaaaaaaay too many "cliques" here in America for us to have any "universally loved" person. Too many cliques, too many political circles/parties, and just too many differing views and opinions on things to have one person universally liked/loved by all.
What prevents us really from having someone like that is too many people instant hate (or dislike) someone based on either their political affiliation or their religion.
Yeah, it depends on who you ask. And do you mean alive and today or all-time? Celebrity figure, political figure, or anyone? I'd say our most popular figures have been...George Washington, JFK, MLK jr, Marilyn Monroe, Britney Spears LOL. Of course these people were not and are not "loved" by everyone. Who knows. I'm curious as to what both Americans and foreigners would say as well.
A group of researches conducted a survey with over 4000 subjects at over 300 different institutions and the final result was a tie between Genghis Khan and Yogi Bear.
I am not sure which countries those mental institutions were located in....

Interesting.....I never thought of it in terms of "cliques"...I always considered it "diversity"...
