Like him or not, it is the end of an era for television. Those commercials are classic, and it really won't be the same with whoever replaces Mr Gottfried in the future.

Whoa...it ain't like Johnny Carson retiring from The Tonight Show! Commercials themes, even the good ones, can be repeated only so much, and therefore, have to end at some point.
Besides...because of his unique voice...and the nature of animation...I'm sure he'll have more voice-over work coming to him.
Has anyone seen the latest Aflac ad? It's done as a silent film with a lady tied to some railroad tracks and the duck comes and saves her. It has titles to explain the action and then at the end there is a message that says if you want to be the next voice of the duck to twitter Aflac to audition.

Yes...I saw it last night. Even though it was silent...I swore I still heard Gilbert's voice.
Aflac needs to end the duck, or keep Gilbert. Any other attempt would be like putting a different voice on Bugs Bunny to replace Mel Blanc, IMO.
