Crickeys.........what a freaking shame. I do hope she will be ok and gets the help she needs because heroin is a one way street to death.
Sad to hear, Even more so given Jon's clean lifestyle. He's one of the small group of rock stars who never let fame cause him to go out of control. Hope she gets help, And fast.
"...because of a 2011 amendment to the New York penal code exempting people from possession charges if they had sought help for somebody experiencing a "drug or alcohol overdose or other life-threatening medical emergency."
That's a nice loophole.
I wonder if it would apply if daddy wasn't who daddy is.

I actually agree with this loop hole. Without this loop hole, she could probably be dead right now. Fear of conviction on drug charges could have prevented her friend from calling for medical help. Suffering an OD is a severe punishment alone and hopefully is enough for the victim to seek help to getting off drugs. It is also an event that will notify his or her family of their loved one's drug abuse problem.

Unfortunately I can say that this loophole does apply to regular folks in NY too. Almost one year ago, my childhood best friend OD'd on prescription meds and her good for nothing girlfriend was at least smart enough to call an ambulance.
Im 100% sure there were drugs visible in the apartment but her gf was never charged with any crime.
Yes loophole applies to everyone.
I disagree with it because if they are being bribed to get help, then chances are they don't really want it, therefore will not BE helped. Waste of resources. Plus, how many people OD on several occasions? Sometimes it is a wake-up call, but usually not enough of one.
Great. Drug addicts are not great to be around, but their addiction should not be a crime. Heroin is a crappy addiction to have. Hopefully she can get decent help. She shouldn't have started in the first place.
