"Ace" is alright by itself (although it wouldn't be my choice) but the combination with "Knute" just sounds strange. Like the OP, the first thing I thought of when I heard the name Knute was that German polar bear.

Isn't Jessica Simpson's first son called Maxwell? That's a nice name.
