Since I know that plenty of actors "back in the day" suspended their careers to join the military, I couldn't wait to click on the link to see who'd done so recently. That'd be because I truly hadn't heard of any. Turns out I was right.

It seems they'd rather portray members of the military than serve. How sad.

There are some modern celebrities who did volunteer (joined after draft was repealed) to serve prior to becoming famous, but even that list is very small. Drew Carey was in the Marine reserves, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit (sp?) was in the Navy, Ice-T was in the Army, and that's about all I can remember. After being attacked in Pearl Harbor, celebrities volunteered to serve in any way they could. After being attacked on 9/11, celebrities volunteered to protest the war and the military. Is it any wonder why I rarely ever pay to watch a movie anymore?

One small correction to the list -

Neville Brand did not interrupt his acting career to enlist in the military. Like Lee Marvin, he did not begin acting until after his time in the military.

How many of YOU have put your careers on hold for a war?

Why should celebrities (actors, musicians) join the military when they already have a job? What about people of other professions?

Yes , Canada WAS in `the Sand Box `for ten years, and we lost our fair share of man and WOMEN there.

Remember that the Canadian Forces has women in ALL three of our military branches, and ALL trades, including ALL combat units. So, yes we do have female infantry, armoured crew members, artillery gunners, combat engineers, combat medics, and logistics techs. If they volunteer, and pass the physical strength tests, the educational requirements, and the metal stability testing, a women can be in any CF trade they want to be in.

We have female ship commanders, female fighter pilots, and female combat unit commanders. We are a totally integrated military force. Did I mention that we operate in TWO languages, as well.......English and French......
