Beautiful wee boy that should still be here today...

How sad. I remember when this happened. Clapton had a lot of tragedy in his life, including his unhappiness with Patti Boyd Harrison.

I remember it, too.

Part of his "unhappiness" with Patti Boyd resulted from his asking her to help raise Conor, as he'd had that affair while still married. She refused.

The death of that child wasn't his fault, but he can claim responsibility for much of the rest of his own tragedies, not to mention those that he inflicted on others.

Wasn't she the inspiration for "Layla" or is that a myth? We never heard much about how all of that affected George Harrison.

Conor's death and then the song, were right when my kids were babies. It was years before I could listen to the song without choking up with emotion.

Yes, you're right; it was no myth. Sunday Morning did an interview with her about 5 years ago (she'd just released a book), and she was very upfront about all of it. Harrison had already been having an affair with Ringo Starr's then-wife, Maureen (Boyd said that she called her [they'd been friends] before the book was published and asked if it was ok with her to identify her as the other woman because Boyd hadn't done so in the original manuscript; she agreed).

Also, Clapton was smitten with Patti Boyd while she was married to Harrison, and told her so. In fact, Clapton told Harrison at a party that he was in love with his wife, and Harrison told her to go home with him (Clapton), then. She said, no, I'm going home with you. Their marriage lasted another three years. When they divorced and she married Clapton, George Harrison attended the wedding.

She also said that, when she hears the song, "Layla," she has no bad memories. In fact, she said, she loves it because she knows it was written for her.

Clapton attended the wedding of George and Olivia. They seem to have gotten along quite well, in spite of Clapton literally stealing Patti.
