Let us not forget he also played hercule periot in the 1970s murder on the orient express he was impressive and exceptional . I loved him in erin Brockovich . May he rest in peace .
I was also impressed by his acting in Erin Brockovich. RIP Albert Finney.
We used to produce a lot of actors like Albert in these islands. Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris, Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier among others. Guys not afraid to chew the occasional piece of scenery...... I think of all those acting types, Anthony Hopkins is the last man standing. We must treasure him. We won't see their like again.
Not one of my favorites, but every once in a while he would turn in a performance that would knock me off my socks. I think for me it was sometimes the films he did didn't interest me, rather than being any criticism of his talent.

Yes, and Oliver Reed ...definitely on that list.
Albert Finney was very good in “Two for the Road”.
His co-star was Audrey Hepburn, they played a married couple in the movie
through a series of innovative flashbacks and flashforwards.
I read that Audrey was a bit worried as Finney was 7 years younger than her.
Not noticeable as Albert Finney always seemed a bit older than his years
with a craggy face and gruff demeanor.
Young albert finney in tom jones was gorgeous. if you haven't seen this movie, take a look. a wonderful, fun, joyful, hilarious movie about the life of the bastard tom jones. the movie won the Oscar for best picture in 1964.

Yes, he didn't seem interested in making big box office films. He just did what he wanted, and made films of limited interest. I would be interested in knowing what he was offered as a young man, and what he turned down.
His refusing 'Lawrence of Arabia' is telling. This film could have made him a massive star, as it did Peter O'Toole. Albert filmed a very elaborate screen test, but then refused to do it. He did say that the idea of stardom scared him.
We have to make do with the films he did choose to make, and just admire that massive talent.
He also played in A Good Year with Russell Crowe. My favorite was Big Fish.
Yep, yep.
Every time I think of Albert Finney, my first thought is of the movie "Shoot the Moon." It never occurred to me, until this very second, that it might be because of my own parents' divorce.
