Noted British character actor Tom Wilkerson passed away December 30th, a very sad end to 2023. He was 75.

He was such a joy to watch on the screen. Loved him as the tormented attorney in Michael Clayton, a randy Ben Franklin in John Adams, and a doctor mourning the loss of his son In The Bedroom. RIP to a great actor.

Wilkinson. This death actually made me cry. He was a wonderful actor.

Sorry to hear that -- and ditto for his turn as Ben Franklin!! He was wonderful in that role. He was also very, very good in "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".

Sorry for your loss.

As someone who has never heard of him nor never seen any of his 130 works (almost, I own Morse so I have that, if unseen, episode and have recently become aware of Ruth Rendell)......other than The Full Monty (it's just not my kind of movie), what would you recommend?

How is it possible not to have heard of him? He was a wonderful performer with an amazing range. Endearing, funny, despicable. His characters, even if minor, tended to stick with you even if the name of the actor didn't always click right away. That's success IMHO. Someone you loved to hate in Girl With a Pearl Earring!

This one hurts.

Simple......I have never seen anything he was in.

Hence, I ask.......what do you recommend?

Do you like character driven dramas? I would watch In The Bedroom. Sissy Spacek plays his wife and Marisa Tomei is the girlfriend of the son. It’s excellent.

Here's a list of performances:

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0929489/

Research the premise of each and take your pick!

Well, several things wrong with that approach.

First of all, the people here know what was good, what was not. I want to be impressed by him, not terrified for lack of better words. I would expect the fans here would know what to recommend. I welcome their input to what was his good work because, after all, I have never seen his work before, of all those over 100 credits. If I wasn't motivated before researching on my own, why should I be motivated now? So please, let the experienced tell me what I have missed.

Secondly, that's not the way I do movies. I go into movies totally blind so when what happens is a total surprise. The prime example is "From Dusk to Dawn"; I checked it out as an ultra violent flick to watch and when what happened in the middle of the flick, that was a total surprise.

Third, those who write synopsis on imdb and on movie box covers often give away half the movie in a sentence. Take Skyjacked for example. That one sentence there on imdb gives away half the flick, makes it pointless to try to figure out the enemy, like in Lifepod, in the first half of the movie.

EDIT: Well, what do you know, appears I have seen a flick with him in it, the newer The Debt. Can't say too much, though, for him in that one for the leading lady overshadows everyone else in the flick.

HOWEVER, in his honor, I will rewatch that flick, if I can find it, tonight.
