I caught this show by surprise and then realized the narrator and host of the show is Nicole Richie's old boyfriend DJ AM, and that he died of an overdose after supposedly beating his addiction and filming this show.
It's eerie and sad because I find myself liking him on the show and now he is gone

Anyone know what happened?
yea--he OD'd a few weeks back.
Nice role model,eh?
Wonder how the people he was mentoring feel now? Wonder if he ever considered, before taking too many pills, how those already desperate that he supposedly had helped would feel ;seeing as how he didn't practice what he preached?
I wonder how many of them will now take that route too.
I think it's stupid to be airing that show now given the circumstances.
Don't anyone bother flaming me--I'm just stating MHO.
I read on MSN & on people.com that MTV let DJ AM's family have the final say on wether or not the show aired. After his family discussed it and weighed the options they CHOSE to let MTV air it hoping that it might help at least one veiwer who is struggling with addtiction or prevent one from starting the struggle give what happened to their loved one.
So at first I thought "wow, MTV being heartless jackholes again", then I thought ill of his family's choice, but if the above reasons are really their motive in airing it- I respect that. I'm sure DJ was proud of the work he did on the series and if someone watches it and says "what a shameful waste of a young life"- the show got it's point accross.

the problem lies within the community of those he was supposedly trying to help. IF they see that he can't/didn't/couldn't make it then they too may decide to take the route he did. I can't see it serves any useful purpose and in fact may have a snowball effect.
I recall that when Kurt Cobain OD'd and one of my close friends had a child going through emotional and drug issues at the time; her son tried to commit suicide and thought If Kurt did it then it was ok or cool and that if Kurt with all he had couldn't cope in this world then how could this kid.
I say they should not have aired it.
Another dead junkie who got way too much press after his death. Heroes are dying every day in this world...putting out fires, saving lives, feeding the hungry, making their countries, cities and communities a better place. Too much ink was wasted on this nobody.
