Marie Osmond's 18-year-old son Michael Blosil has died, a family spokesman said Saturday.

"My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time," the entertainer said in a statement through spokesman Alan Nierob.

It's probably because of the Mormon church and the fact that Michael was gay.. So extremely depressing. I lived in Salt Lake for three and a half years. Mormons are nice people, but the culture is very different. I am very sad for the whole family.

The Mormons are apparently very focused on their cause... traditional marriage the focus of their cult pretty much.

lemon&lime, I agree sometimes people feel they have no choices, sad that his situation was such that he felt death was the only solution. A life lost. Tragic.

I think the Osmonds are fine people and I wish there were more people like them. They are in my prayers tonight. RIP Michael.

I really felt a sadness for Marie when I read the story this afternoon. To lose a child has to be the hardest thing any mother ever has to go through. I'm glad they are a strong loving family and will support her emotionally during this time.

Sad. I've always admire Marie.

It must have been twice difficult to come forward with his lifestyle living in the spotlight - expectations.

For some, if not most...suicide = relief.
