Just gathering some information about how quickly people think they should respond to text messages as opposed to email or voice messages.

The poll allows multiple choices, so please identify your age as well because that will matter in the results.

It entirely depends who it is from.

My wife: I better reply quick.

My college friends: When I get around to it.

I consider text message like e-mails as non-emergency. Emergency then call me as always.

I try to answer texts generally as soon as I can, but if the person is an acquaintance, kind of annoying, or the message isn't urgent, I'll take my time so it doesn't stress me out and answer it when I want to.

^^^ pretty much this ^^^
I also would add - the importance is a main factor. And yes, I agree - text message can't be really very important. Who would waste time to text when the house is on fire? They will call, no?? I am just afraid that many people simply forgot how to call and talk...

It completely depends.

Meeting a friend at an event. "I've arrived. Where are you?" Immediate reply.

Driving somewhere and someone texts - not answering until I get to where I'm going, no matter how long it takes.

Text from my son. Immediate response.

Text from a co-worker. If the weekend, might not be for a day or 2.

Depends on urgency and who it is, but generally I will respond as soon as practical

I cant's stand it when people at work text during a meeting, so I ignore them until after, and that can often be an hour or more. When one of my people texts in the morning that they are not coming in or will be late, I do respond immediately.

I've never texted or got a text. Had enough of such nonsense with being required to wear a pager.
