I try to answer texts generally as soon as I can, but if the person is an acquaintance, kind of annoying, or the message isn't urgent, I'll take my time so it doesn't stress me out and answer it when I want to.

I also would add - the importance is a main factor. And yes, I agree - text message can't be really very important. Who would waste time to text when the house is on fire? They will call, no?? I am just afraid that many people simply forgot how to call and talk...

I cant's stand it when people at work text during a meeting, so I ignore them until after, and that can often be an hour or more. When one of my people texts in the morning that they are not coming in or will be late, I do respond immediately.
I've never texted or got a text. Had enough of such nonsense with being required to wear a pager.
